Biswanath Wildlife Division was created vide Govt. Notification No. FRM. 203/2017/57 dated 14th August 2018 by relocating the erstwhile Central Assam Afforestation Division, Hojai. The division covers an area of 401 sq. km., which includes the entire 6th Addition area of Kaziranga National Park and Monabari Soil Conservation Plantation. The entire area used to be the earlier jurisdiction of Northern Range of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division. The division consists of four ranges, namely:

Eastern Range with Hd Qr at Gamiri.

Central Range, with Hd Qr at Biswanath Ghat.

Western Range, with Hd Qr at Nagshankar.

Crime Investigation Range, Biswanath Chariali.

Majority of the area of the division falls in the Brahmaputra River. The northern bank and the southern bank of Brahmaputra River roughly constitute the northern and southern limits of the division. The division lies contiguous to Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, along with its southern boundary. A copy of the Division map is enclosed herewith.

          The civil jurisdiction of the Division falls in Biswanath and Gohpur Sub-Division of Biswanath District and Tezpur Sub-Division of Sonitpur District.

Geography:- Biswanath Wildlife Division is situated in the floodplain of Brahmaputra River in Biswanath and Sonitpur district of Assam, India it covers an area of 401 sq. km.which includes the entire 6th addition of Kaziranga NationalParkand Monabari soil conservation plantation. The division spreads from the Brahmaputra River south of the National Highway no.15 which runs along its southern boundary at Eastern Assam wildlife Division(Agratoti, Kohora ,Bagori and Burapahar ranges). The Brahmaputra River covers approximately more than half part of the total area of this division. Erosion and sifting of the Brahmaputra River induce a constant change in the total area. During the monsoon season approximately 80% of the area of this division submerged from the flood waters. The interplay of the river and it's tributaries results in a mosaic of tall grass and forest in the river island that gives rise to a vast diversity of insects, birds and animals.

Scenic beauty: The area of the division lies in the river Brahmaputra and the width of Brahmaputra magnifies the beauty of nearby hills and open sky. The small landmasses bear different grasses to fill the greenness.

Flora and fauna: Elephants, Asiatic wild buffalo, Swamp deer, Wild boar is common. Gangetic river dolphin too visible in the confluence of small rivers to the Brahmaputra.
